Job Title: MANAGER, CORPORATE PLANNING

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer of the Company

Purpose: To co-ordinate the development and execution of medium and long term strategic corporate objectives and plans to deliver the company's corporate strategy.

Accountabilities: Working with the CEO and each divisional head (Senior Vice Presidents), the Corporate Planning Manager will ensure that: medium and long term plans are co-ordinated, realisable and consistent across all divisions and functions. short term targets in order to achieve medium and long term plans are being monitored and reported accurately and in a timely fashion. information used by the CEO in reporting to the Board of the company with respect to achievement of strategic goals is complete and accurate and is presented in a form that allows well informed decisions to be made. the CEO has all relevant information in order to make accurate representations to the board when he is seeking decisions that have significant impact on the future of the company. the management system to develop and monitor medium and long term plans is robust, is integral with other internal management systems and allows a true reflection of progress in achieving the company's strategic aims. The Corporate Planning Manager will be required to undertake any other duties within his/her area of competence as required by the CEO.

Context: The accountability and responsibility for defining strategic objectives and achieving medium and long term plans to achieve these objectives remains with the CEO and his individual divisional SVPs. In developing the strategic plan, the Corporate Planning Manager will: facilitate the development of overall strategic objectives to achieve the aspirations of the CEO and board of the company. in facilitating development of strategic objectives, act as the first point of challenge, i.e. ensure that divisional targets to achieve the plan are soundly based, before being submitted to the CEO for overview. advise the CEO on elements of objectives in terms of achievability of objectives. in facilitating the development of the long and medium term plan (including cost and schedules), act as assurance that the plans are achievable given constraints (internal and external) and ensure that plans have well defined targets against which progress can be monitored. provide all support (including information, presentation sets, reports etc.) to the CEO in terms of both content and style when seeking approval for company's strategic plan. liaise and communicate regularly with the CEO and the divisional SVPs. In executing the strategic plan, the Corporate Planning Manager will:- Implement a system whereby achievement of targets can be monitored and formally reported to the CEO on a monthly basis in a consistent manner and with the co-ordination necessary across all divisions. Implement a consistent system whereby each SVP will monitor progress on achievement of strategic targets once per week. Implement a system whereby formal strategic reviews are undertaken once every six months. Once per year, develop a set of annual planning instructions and assumptions in order to guide divisional SVPs as they develop five year rolling plans to achieve strategic objectives. Act as assurance to the CEO that any variance to plan is understood and remedial actions in place to address them so as to ensure that high level targets can be achieved. Liaise and communicate regularly with the CEO and the divisional SVPs.

Performance Criteria: The performance of the post holder will be based on: the ability to draw together different views and opinions in producing a coherent, apposite and functionally consistent strategic plan for NPCC in a way that engages senior management. delivery of timely performance reports with respect to strategy execution to allow due consideration and overview of the CEO before reporting to the board. clarity of performance reports to allow the CEO to accurately understand performance with respect to delivery of the strategy.

Reporting directly to the CEO and working with his SVPs, the Corporate Planning Manager will facilitate the on-going development of corporate strategy, ensure that plans are in place to achieve strategic aims and progress is being monitored proactively. In addition, the CEO will look to the Corporate Planning Manager to provide him with all supporting information when he discusses strategy and progress on strategy to the Board. The ideal candidate will have: An excellent understanding of corporate strategy principles and the impacts of strategy on the organisation. An in depth understanding of the business environment within which our client operates and of the internal nature of this type of business. An in depth understanding of the role of each function within the organisation, their processes and the interaction between functions in order to successfully deliver high level business objectives. Had line responsibility for a key area of a business similar to the size and nature of our client's. Familiarity with up to date corporate planning methodologies and tools. Had significant experience in interacting with board members and senior executives in a similar role and in determining and executing corporate strategy. You will be comfortable in presenting at a senior level (board, CEO and senior vice president). Clarity of thought, the ability to communicate to and engage with members of the management team will be essential attributes of the successful candidate.
